Wanderland 2013 – The Coachella of the Philippines

Over the weekend, the Philippines had its very first Coachella-like event – Wanderland 2013. Producer Karpos Multimedia, Inc. says this is going to be an annual arts and music festival where both local and international indie-rock acts perform for one big party on the grounds.

Those of us who stalk celebrities on Instagram had feeds filled with posts showing happy faces posing for the camera. We didn’t have to be there to see Wanderland PH fashion. According to the official event website, this is what you should wear:

Well, maybe minus the headgear, most people seemed to have taken their advice. It is still the height of summer after all, so sleeveless, cotton tops, shorts, and sandals will do. Much of the photos streaming from the even showed off summer fashion, faces half-hidden by sunnies and/or hats, with the big stage and musicians in the background. Towards the evening though, it was all about the music. Eventually more and more band photos with this or that vocalist behind the mic or guitar stand showed up in social media. And everybody just seemed to be having a lot of fun.

I may have missed it this year, but I’d love to be in Wanderland 2014.

Getting a Proper Grip

We move around, go from one place to another, and bring something somewhere all the time. We use our hands most of the time, and if something is big enough, we expect that it should have something that fits in our hands so we can handle it properly while getting the job done, whatever it is. Just as you enter your car, you need a handle to open the door. When you open the cabinet, wood or steel, there has to be a handle to pull that box out of its hiding place.

Handles are in different shapes and sizes, but to make it as useful as it should be, it should have a form that is bent that the curves are fit to the form of the hand that holds it, to make the grip stronger like that of zinc plated malleable iron handle nuts, so that it will be more efficient and less tiring to handle.

Music and the Thinking Process

I was watching the news the other night (on Fox), and there was one item scrolling through the news bar at the bottom of the screen that caught my attention.

According to the news item, studies that were recently conducted revealed the impact that music had on the thinking process. It said that people are able to think more clearly when they are listening to music.

I don’t know with you, but I can attest to that; thus, it is a fact for me. I write for a living. At the same time, I am the proofreader/editor in our company. I can definitely say that I work better when music is on.

In fact, I would find myself singing along to the songs on my playlist. It’s like having my own mini concert in my room while I’m working. As embarrassing as it sounds, I go full throttle when I sing in my room. You  would think I have a vocalist live 3 with the concert vibe in my room. Yep, I got it bad.

What can I say? I love writing and singing. I am not ashamed to admit that I am a frustrated singer. Grin

The Heat Is On

In my 36 summers, I would have to say that this one is, by far, the hottest one. The unbearable heat would put air conditioning units to shame, I tell you. When you enter a room, it wouldn’t take you a second to feel all stuffy, as if a huge weight was put on you your chest.

Even the sunshine from as early as six o’clock in the morning can burn your skin! The heat is relentless.

I know that most young children enjoy this weather since they can play outdoors to their hearts’ content. However, inasmuch as I want summer to last so I can enjoy the company of my school-aged nephew, I am practically begging for the rainy season to commence. Moisture. Just a drop. Heck. A downpour is what I need!

Yes, I’ve always been partial with the rainy season. It’s my favorite (not the storms and typhoons, though), which is atypical of my name (Sunshine). Weird, huh? Well, I am one weird lady.

When I Grow Up

How often do you hear young children begin their conversations with the words above? I, for one, can say that I have heard A LOT of kids say they want to be doctors, teachers, firemen, presidents, astronauts, and policemen when they grow up. Of course, answers vary when you talk to young girls. Their answers would mostly put a smile on my lips (and silently wish that their dreams come true). Young girls’ answers would range from being premier ballerinas to movie stars, from models to beauty queens.

Well, if you have a young girl and you want her to be either one of the above-mentioned, you need to start early.

I remember when I was in second grade, there was a beauty contest in school and a representative from each class was required. Unfortunately, my adviser decided to enter me in the contest. Since I wasn’t interested in it, the entire preparation leading up to the actual contest was grueling (for me), to say the least. I had to endure endless practice sessions, fittings of girls pageant dresses, and so much more.

I didn’t win. I ended as first runner-up, and I couldn’t have been more thankful. At eight years of age, it wasn’t the sort of thing that interested me much. That early, I was more interested in writing stories and reading. I already knew my calling back then.

Nevertheless, looking back, I can say that I enjoyed that experience. At least, I can say that I was once a beauty pageant contestant. That was definitely one for the books. Smile

Digg ThisSubmit to StumbleUpon

Are you a plus size woman who finds it hard to choose and wear suitable clothing? Do you want to stay fashionably trendy while wearing plus size clothing? Are you looking for good tips and practical advice on how to look good with the full figure you have? This article is just right and fit for you. Below, I dish out my practical tips and advice on how to wear a plus size ladies clothing in an elegant and stylish way. Check them out.

Practical Tips And General Advice In Wearing Plus Size Clothing

Appreciate Your Figure

For me, this is the most important and helpful tip that I can give out. Any other tips or advice will just go into waste if you don’t accept and appreciate the figure you have. Appreciating your figure means having confidence with the kind of body size you got. After all, confidence is much more important than clothing you wear right?

Wear The Right Size

Don’t wear something that is too small for your size. It will just squeeze more the bulges you are trying to hide until it shows and come out. Don’t wear an outfit just because it looks good and great with other plus size women you see, instead wear it because it fits rightfully at your body. Choose clothing that hugs your shape and size and elegantly highlights your body curves.

Choose The Right Shape

Don’t ever wear clothing that is oversized in an attempt to hide your curves. It will just make you look bigger than what you are right now. Like what I have said above, you have to be confident about your shape and size and always wear the right size.

Carefully Choose Clothing Style And Design

Wearing stripes and heavily printed clothing can make some full figured women look twice as big as her size. The clothing’s design gives an accent to the body size. Better to stay away from wearing shirts or dress with big prints and large horizontal stripes.

Is it Wise to Invest in Silver?

Digg ThisSubmit to StumbleUpon

Each year, those in the fashion industry lay out what they think would be the color or colors of the year. Apparently, green is the color for the year 2013. I can’t exactly remember when, but I do recall that silver was once color of the year. I know because I practically begged my mom to buy me a pair of silver sandals, which was the craze back then. Yes, there was a time when girls like me went crazy over metallic shoes.

Well, you really can’t blame people for having high regard for silver. After all, it ranks high up with gold in the list of precious metals. In fact, I prefer silver to gold especially in my choice of jewelry. Most of my jewelry sets are in silver.

My fascination with silver is making me think of investing in silver bullion bars. I heard that most banks would actually store those bars for safekeeping. Of course, when push comes to shove, those bullion bars may be exchanged for real currency. Hence, there would be money available to spend on rainy days. What do you think? Should I invest in it?

Some Tips for a School Fashion Show

Digg ThisSubmit to StumbleUpon

School fashion shows can be quite fun if done properly. If done the wrong way, however, it could end up being one boring affair which is only occasionally enlivened by the people laughing at a humiliated model. What you need are some tips to help you.

1) Think of a theme – When putting up a school fashion show, it is always helpful if you use a theme. A theme gives a fashion show a sense of organization and people would be able to relate the fashion to the theme. There are various types of themes to choose from:

a) Season – Basing your school fashion show on the season is always popular. You could design and model various outfits that correspond with the time of year. This would also give you an idea of how to decorate the venue. Basing your school fashion show on a season can help you unleash your creativity and make your brain cells work. How can you balance the freedom of creativity with the confinement of the theme? This will definitely help you improve your skills.

b) Literature – Another great idea for a theme is literature. You should think about basing your school fashion show on a great piece of literature. How about basing it on the book The Great Gatsby? Ever tried creating fashion pieces for Frodo? This can be fun as you will be bringing the visions of authors to life. Basing your school fashion show on a piece of literature can also be a bit easier than other themes since most authors actually have pretty detailed descriptions of the clothes their character wear. This is especially true for fantasy novels. Cloaks, anyone?

2) Music – The music sets the mood for the whole fashion show. It strikes the subconscious of the watchers and thus, determines how much attention they will be paying your school fashion show. This means, of course, that you need to choose the correct sounds to accompany your school fashion show. For instance, you could make female students wear rockstar clothes. This high school fashion is very popular among fans of rock bands. This may include shirts that make statements or shirts featuring their favorite band. You could even go the extra mile and use actual instruments as props. Nowadays, it’s very easy to find the best electronic drum set on online shops.

You need to choose music that grabs the attention of the spectators enough to mesmerize them. However, you do not want the music to distract the spectators from the school fashion show. The best type of music to use would be instrumental. This is because instrumental music can set the mood for the show without distracting the viewers with familiar lyrics.

3) Lighting – Proper lighting effects are always essential if you want to have a great school fashion show. Together with the background music, the lighting effects give the audience a general emotion to feel. How do you want them to react when they see a certain ensemble? You can make them react as you want them by simply combining light and sound.

4) Spontaneity – Students hate predictability. Because of this, the best thing that your school fashion show could have is a surprise. You need to show your students something unexpected and completely new. In doing so, you will be able to grab their attentions and keep it. By being spontaneous, you will keep spectators guessing as to what will come next. This will keep their eyes on the school fashion show and off their watches and mobile phones. If you can make the audience forget about the gadgets on their pockets, then you would know that your school fashion show rocks!

Choosing a Fashion School in California

Digg ThisSubmit to StumbleUpon

If you are thinking about going to a fashion school, then California is the place for you. There are many fashion schools in California to pick from. Some may be good, some may be bad, but surely you will find the best one for you. How do you choose a California fashion school? Here are some tips and standards you can use to get you started:

1) Location – some people may not care where a fashion school is as long as it is inside California. However, you should realize that California fashion schools could often be judged through their locations. Find a California fashions school, which is near fashion centers. This means you need to find a California fashion school, which is located where all the action is. This will help you as a student since it will give you exposure to what’s out there in the real world.

Some students would prefer a California high school that’s located in a place, which would inspire them. Some choose to attend California fashion schools, which are located near the sea or close to nature. From the scenery, a student can gain inspiration enough to produce a new work of couture art.

2) Affiliated or Independent – should you go with a California fashion school, which is a part of a prestigious university, or should you go to one that stands on its own? There are cases when a California fashion school within a university is better since the name on your resume will help you get great jobs easier. However, there is also something to be said for an independent school that can hold its own against the big names.

One thing you should consider is the fact that in a big school, you are mostly paying for the name of the school and not for the quality of education. You are paying additional cash to have the name of the university on your resume. This would help you get a job easier.

The fashion world, however, rarely cares for the name of a university if it does not perform well. If you have the name of a great independent school on your list, you might find it easier to get a job.

3) Cost – there is also the cost to think about. California fashion schools cost money. There is no denying that fact. The question that remains is, “How much money should it cost you?”

There are, of course, schools that offer discounted tuition for various reasons. Some are suffering declines in enrollment. Some may just be starting their operation and are trying to break into the market. In opting for these schools, you could save a lot of money. However, you should consider that you might be sacrificing quality for cost.

You could also consider going to schools, which are more prestigious. These schools may ask you to pay loads of money in order to study there. However, you should remember that high cost doesn’t necessarily equal high quality. You need to realize that in some schools you will not be paying form an education but you will be paying for the name.

Choosing a California fashion school might seem like a hard task. However, by considering these tips and truly knowing what you want, you can make it a very easy experience for you.
